Tree Identification Classes

These courses include examples of common trees in the Northeast . The basic concepts you will learn can be applied to identifying trees in any region. Tree ID is a useful skill and builds a deeper connection to nature. Once you start learning how to identify the many species of trees you will be better able to enjoy and appreciate the trees in your community.

Join our FREE live, in-person workshop on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 5:30 – 7:30 PM at Forest Park. You will learn tips & tricks to identifying a range of native and common tree species here New England and in the Forest Park Arboretum. This course will help you get ready to help inventory and tag trees this summer in the Arboretum.

Online Sessions

Learn how to identify trees in this self-guided online class from our partners at The Morton Arboretum. Get to know the common trees you see in Forest Park or in your neighborhood. In this course, you will learn how to ID a tree by: • using characteristics such as leaves, bark, branches, flowers, and fruit; • learning how to use tree identification keys and field guides, and; • seeing your natural surroundings in a new way, from the comfort of your home or office.
